I just invent, then wait until man comes around to needing what I've invented. R. Buckminster Fuller
Working with technology means always working with a moving target, which makes it interesting but also difficult. The next cool thing you see has by definition already been done.
To make something new you need to push boundaries, do things that haven't been done before, take risks. Being prepared for these risks and staying creative when problems arise is essential for success.
This is why i spend a lot of time on research & development and stay versatile with skillsets. I don’t want to be the passanger on the train.
People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware. Alan Kay
Henry Ford didn’t go for faster horses but instead invented a whole new industry that quite obviously changed the world. If we only look at what we have we are stuck to doing things that already exist. To make something brand new you need to invent the tools.
Mobile phones have had a big impact on the world but one thing people don't consider is the fact they brought down component sizes and prices. Today we can use these same components to create almost anything we can imagine.
This allows our creative minds to wander and make something truly new.
This is why hardware has recently been my primary focus, ranging from design, circuitboard layout, prototyping, assembly and programming. Prototypes and small quantities are built by hand but if 1000 units are needed i have experience and contacts with several factories for larger production runs.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Arthur C. Clarke
You don’t need to be a mechanic to be able to drive a car. Technology should be in the background, allowing you to reach your goal without getting in your way. It's there to enhance, not to clutter.
Everybody on a team is responsible for a good user experience in the end. Performance for instance is a critical feature and if not done properly gives a bad experience to the user. In this sense a developer is the first person to interact with the user on a website and they need to understand the value of this.
The expression people get on their faces when they're delighted by something doing more than they expected is absolutely priceless. They'll come back, tell their friends or become loyal customers. It's worth spending those extra couple minutes putting yourself in the users' shoes and thinking about this.
I've been working with technology as long as I can remember. It started in the early days of Flash (not counting Lego) and evolved into a career in advertising working for agencies in Finland, Sweden, The US (San Francisco), Canada (Montreal) and Amsterdam. I've always been passionate about the possibilities which has led to endless curiosity in pushing boundaries on the web, mobile and real life.
After about 9 years in agencies i decided to take a leap of faith and focus on tomorrow by going freelance. In the recent years this has resulted in a full-blown electronics studio focusing mostly on hardware. Afterall, if you want to do something brand new you shouldn't be limited with what exists on the market today.
Intrigued? Let's talk.
I'm currently based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Let's make something amazing.
